Megabus - Stalled on I-94 for two hours with flat tire.
Reading other reviews my complaint seems mild. Our driver was actually courteous and a good driver, made announcements, helped with luggage. No complaint there.
On Monday March 14 our bus left Chicago around 10:35 am, pretty much on time. Made a scheduled stop in Milwaukee at Greyhound depot (where we were admonished to not enter the building; we weren't "allowed"). About 1/2 hour outside of Milwaukee, before Madison, the bus came to a stop on the side of I-94 where we languished for two hours. Driver made an announcement about a "mechanical issue" with no indication of how long we'd be there. A service vehicle eventually came, changed the tire, and we were on our way, only two hours late to St. Paul.
Considering others' reviews we were lucky to have been rescued so quickly, lucky our bus didn't start on fire. I do believe Megabus is too cheap to pay a concession to Greyhound for the use of their depot. They also skimp on maintenance; flat tires don't "just happen". Driver seemed disgusted.
The ride, which takes 6 hours by car, took us 11 hours. Never again. Cheap price not worth it; next time we'll drive or fly.
Reason of review: poor attention to maintenance.
Monetary Loss: $80.
Megabus Pros: Bus driver seemed competent, Safe driving, Bus drivers seem to know the route well.
Megabus Cons: Being delayed 2 hours.
Location: Stillwater, Minnesota
